Nerds

Yesterday afternoon at school my kids were given a list of choices on the board. The first two were mandatory, the others were to be worked on if they finished the "must dos". I was meeting with kids one-on-one while doing some paperwork when all of a sudden one of the girls in my class came up to me and exclaimed, "A... has decided that he's going to be a nerd from now on. He's tucked his shirt in, pulled his pants up to his chest, and rolled up his pant legs while slicking his hair down."

I replied, "What?" then looked over. "A... come here!" A... came over. "What are you doing?"

He looked at me, having made the aforementioned changes to his wardrobe, and said, "I'm going to be a nerd from now on."

I don't know exactly why now that I'm looking back at the situation, but it was hysterical! I laughed so hard I thought I was going to cry.

Well, to make matters worse (or better... depends on how you look at it...) the next time I turned around, all of the other boys in my class has tucked in their shirts, pulled up their pants, and rolled up their pant legs.

They were all excited about their newfound hobby of being nerds.

The cool thing is that A... is not usually an instigator on anything. He's a lower student and not usually noticed by the others. For the first time that I know of, he was able to start a trend.

Awww, yay for A!! What a good feeling for him.

What is it with nerds? A while back, J & his classmates did that very same thing. T has some pictures of them posing with calculators & big glasses with pants hitched up & shirts tucked in, buttoned all the way up.
