Carney Summers

Here are the top ten reasons that this is by far my favorite time of the year.
  1. I don't have to work. This is a definite positive to being a teacher!
  2. Lots of things around "the house" get done. Right now I'm waiting on carpet delivery in order to do any of those, which is becoming very annoying, but once it comes progress will be made.
  3. I get to travel. Every summer Brent and I go somewhere, whether it's a vacation, to visit family, or just hiking and camping around where we live. An added bonus this year was the trip to Cocoa Beach with Holly and Rena.
  4. Northern Kentucky summers are gorgeous! When I just took Wilson outside to do his morning business the temperature made me wish I were wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt. The heat and humidity come, but in smaller doses.
  5. Sleeping in!
  6. I am a better person to be around most of the time because I am both low-key and not stressed out.
  7. Going to lunch with people. This happened more frequently while in Houston, mostly because I knew more people, but is still a perk of the summer.
  8. Produce. This sounds corny, but fruits and vegetables are fresher and taste better in the summer.
  9. Refocusing on my Savior. I often lose sight of where He is or what He is doing in my life during the school year. Having more down time reminds me that He is still there and has a plan for me. And He never left me!
  10. Time with Brent. We regroup and refocus each summer. This helps us to get along better :)
Unfortunately the summer goes by too quickly! Since it's already mid-morning I should take advantage of all the time given to me.

What are your favorite things about summer?

All of the above, except substitute David for Brent. ;) And, of course, I don't get to wish I had on a long-sleeved shirt in the summer. Well, I could wish it but not because the temperature makes me.

Sounds like your summers are way better than mine! Of course I'm down here with the serious heat and humidity, so it's easier for me to stay somewhere air-conditioned all day. Makes for some lazy days around the house, I tell ya.

Your summer sounds idealic! Our summer here is so hot it saps your energy to do anything fun outside. Of course, when I was a little girl (and nobody had A/C!) we played outside all day and only went inside when they dragged us in to have a bath before bed - we didn't think a thing about the heat. Just how much fun we could have. And summers were way longer then - not really, but it seemed that way. Now, we're just a bunch of whiners. Do you think being older could have anything to do with that? Nah!
