This weekend I went home to Black Mountain for the Cordell Family Reunion. It is the first week in October every year, but I had not been in 5 or 6 years so I was due for an appearance. I took the day off on Friday and spent time with Mom wandering around
Cherry Street and eating lunch at Veranda's Cafe. It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday, doing some mother-daughter bonding.

On Friday afternoon Mom and I picked up Dallas from preschool for his "Nana and Papa" time. Here Amy and I had attacked him for some kisses.

Dad was excited on Saturday about his football with a built-in pump. He'd just finished pumping it and was ready to play!

My Great-Grandma Cordell had 16 children. These are 6 that are still living.
From left to right: Wanda, William, Judy, Nancy, Pat, Terry

This is me and Jackie, one of my favorite people in the extended family. She's a little younger than my mom, but somehow she and I have always connected. She's fun to talk to and is always so passionate about the things she is doing and trying.

And this is the Seven Sisters Mountain Range from as seen from the other side of Lake Tomahawk. This lake is about 4 blocks down from my parents house. I grew up walking around and playing at the playground. I can honestly say it's one of my favorite places to go, for a walk or just to think. Plus, it's beautiful! I have so many memories at this lake from growing up. Some include watching fireworks on July 4th every year, my 16th birthday party at the clubhouse that is in the middle of picture, swimming at the pool that is right behind the clubhouse, and tons of walks.
It's funny how I don't think about such things too often, but once I'm back in the place where they occurred I begin to reminisce. And even though I am very glad that I am where I am now, and I'm grateful for the experiences I've had so far in my life, it's still fun to remember. Would I want to go there again to live? As my Uncle William agreed to during the reunion, I pretty sure I would not. However, I will always have the memories.

That place is BEAUTIFUL! How blessed you were to grow up in such a place!
Gorgeous! I can imagine what fun a Sweet 16 celebration would be there.
And 16 children? Bless them. That's amazing.
Sounds like you had a good time! Glad you made it home safely!
I'm so glad you got to go to that reunion. At one of my reunions once, I met eight cousins that all started with the letter A and ate olives off of their fingertips. And James met another cousin also named James Currie who had the same birthday. Wierd....and yes, sometimes we have our reunions in West Virginia. :)
