Happenings

Here is a list of the latest happenings for Mr. Oliver:
  • Last night he slept for 6 hours straight! We are praying it continues and feel blessed beyond measure that he's doing so well.
  • He's started smiling but it has to be instigated by someone else. His favorite thing to smile at is his butterfly that Grammy gave him.
  • He's holding his head up better and better every day. The problem is when I put him over my shoulder he often head-bangs, either hitting my shoulder or head.
  • He loves to suck his hands. I really don't want him to be a "thumb-sucker" so we are constantly replacing his fingers with a pacifier.
  • He loves to snuggle with me on the couch or in the glider. I love it just as much, I promise! It's our special time.
  • We never got the latching down on breastfeeding so I am pumping exclusively and we feed him from a bottle. This has so many advantages for us! Brent can help and feels more connected. I don't dread feeding him like I was. He's doing great with this as well!
  • He has crazy amounts of gas (always has...) which leads to amazing "toots" and burps. Quite frequently Brent or I think the adult in the room was the one to let it loose, when really it was the little guy. (He just tooted sitting on my lap just now. O the irony!)
Sunday will be 7 weeks since he was born. Time is flying by so quickly it is crazy. I go back to work three weeks from today so we'll just keep enjoying every moment we have together.

Grammy and Peepaw (we really wish he'd go by Gramps) are coming for the weekend . I have a feeling Oliver is about to find out what it means to be spoiled...

Argh, I couldn't spell, so here is my comment...

I can help you with gas issues!!! (that is if you need help)

We had to use Dr. Brown's bottles for Samantha and they REALLY helped her gas. We tried not using them for a day and well, it was miserable. (Dr. Brown also make a formula pitcher that can make a whole day's formula in less than five minutes) Also, when you burp Oliver, fix him so that the palm of your hand is applying pressure to his tummy - he will probably be slumped over and that is okay. Then, do a rub pat up each side beginning at his waist. A nurse taught us this method with Alexandra and it saved us

Susan, thanks! We are using the Tippee Tommee bottles which are supposed to help with gas too. We'll have to try that method when we burp him. Thanks so much!
