Whirlwind of a Week

Life in the Carney house has gotten really busy really fast! The last week has been crazy for sure. As previously posted, we have been blessed with a great sleeper. He continued his streak for 9 out of 11 nights. However this caused us to have to adjust his schedule so he could sleep longer at night. The problem came in not having enough day-time naps and crankiness to ensue. That's not when the whirlwind started though...

The first bit of craziness was last Sunday night when I woke up sick to my stomach. Let's just say Brent made a Kroger run for Immodium at 4:30 am. (I don't think you want any of the gory details...) Though I was not 100% I still went to work on Monday. As though this were not enough, Brent woke up Monday night, also sick to his stomach, but vomiting... so much that Oliver went to the sitter on Tuesday so I could work and Brent could get better. To quote Brent, "If I have to look at spit-up or a dirty diaper today I'm going to lose it."

One problem with this change was that Oliver's new schedule had only started on Monday. That means that the sitter had to do Day 2 with us being unsure of what to tell her about naps. Basically he didn't sleep enough during the day, causing late afternoon fussiness during my time with him. Tuesday night was full of some crying from the little dude whereas Wednesday and Thursday were bad enough that Oliver went to bed early to save my head from exploding.

Holly came to visit on Thursday so Oliver got some good "Aunt Holly" time on Friday. She and Brent got him sleeping better so that by Monday morning he was back on track. Fussiness wound down and smiling increased. The weekend was full of fun at a craft fair and dinner with friends on both Saturday and Sunday. He was an incredibly amazing baby on Saturday night at Max & Erma's where he sat in his car seat for an hour and a half playing with his hands and laughing about it. I was seriously impressed that he could keep himself occupied that long. It was a good weekend!

But something did not seem right on Monday. I had the day off to take the Kentucky Law Test for my principal license. (I got a 95 on the test and discovered in the last week that I'll be able to graduate with a Masters in Instructional Leadership in May instead of during the summer. Woo hoo!) Late afternoon, after my test, I discovered an in-grown fingernail on Oliver's hand. Some gunk came out so we called the doctor to see what we should do. They told us simple procedures of washing it out and putting some Neosporin on it and said to call if it was not better by this morning.

Oliver was up all night... not normal. We had analyzed that it could be his finger, possible teething, or a 3-month growth spurt. This morning Brent called the doctor since we did not know what to do or if anything was even wrong, and they had him come in to check out the little man. It turns out that the finger was no big deal, but he has minor ear infections in both ears and is definitely teething. Brent was sent home with a prescription for penicillin that O has to take for the next 10 days.

And that's the 12th week of Oliver's life.

These three deer were in our backyard in the middle of last week.
I was washing bottles about 7:00 and yelled down the hall for
Brent when I saw them. This only the second time we've
seen deer in our backyard. We were excited!
