Easter Conversation

Waiting for students to finish in the restroom.

Student 1: Are we going out to recess?
Me: Yes. It is beautiful out today! And tomorrow is going to be even better!

We begin walking down the hall toward the cafeteria for lunch.

Me: I hope it is this pretty on Sunday.
Student 1: What's on Sunday?
Me: Easter!
Student 1: Really? It's already Easter? That's great! I can't wait!
Student 2: Are you crazy? Why do you like Easter? It just means we have to go to church.
Student 1: I know. Why would you NOT like Easter? (I see the "I know Jesus twinkle in his eye", but also know about his relationship with God from conversations earlier in the year.)
Student 2: All Easter means is my dad sits there and sends texts on his cell phone for a really long time.
Student 1: Well that is sad because it means a lot more than that to me. (Looks at me and winks, shrugs shoulders at the same time, like he does not understand the confusion.)

Overhearing this conversation today was refreshing. Student 1 and I have had many conversations this year about our beliefs. I've told him how I cannot share about Jesus straight out due to separation of church and state in public education, but I can encourage him as he shares his testimony with his classmates. I love that he is living out his passion for Christ at such an early age.

I left the students at lunch with a smile in my heart.

Absolutely wonderful. I love how God puts students like that in classes. Happy Easter!
