Two Weeks... Already?

The last two weeks have flown by! Our activities as of lately include trying to get little Oliver on a schedule of feeding, chillin', and sleeping. He started out sleeping AMAZINGLY at 3.5 hours at night between feedings. Now it's not as good, but we're trying some things to make it better. We've decided that he's a kid that needs certain amounts of awake time in order to function. This is actually fun for us because it means we get to interact with him more! Usually twice a day for about 2 hours he does anything he can to be awake. Yesterday we had him sleep anyway and were up for 2.5 hours in the middle of the night. We'd rather him be up in the middle of the day. I say all this to say we're still working on establishing a schedule. Our hopes are for a baby who sleeps through a good portion of the night before I go back to work the last week in October. There is hope...

Over Labor Day weekend Aunt Amy and Aunt Holly came to meet and love on Oliver. He loves both of his aunts! He enjoyed being held and sleeping on both of them. They were especially helpful when he was fussy for a while on Saturday and I was trying to finish some reading for my master's class. We  can't wait for them to visit again!

Our biggest challenge over the last two weeks has been figuring out the logistics behind nursing. From the time in the hospital it was difficult, something I did not expect. On our second night home my friend April told us about a nipple shield, which helped. However, I was still hurting pretty badly while nursing. Last Thursday I went to a lactation consultant, who I thought was WAY overpriced, for help. Initially I thought I'd wasted a considerable amount of money. However, about four days later, things are looking up. We are working on getting rid of the shield (on one side for now anyway) and making progress.

Honestly things are looking good! Oliver is a great kid who we thoroughly enjoy. Many people keep asking how we chose his name. Well, there is not really a story. We just liked it. Plus it means "peace". Who could not use a little peace in their life? So far his name fits well.
